Buyers regularly ask for a lamp's FCC certificate and are surprised by the answer. The requirement applies to the radio equipment, and in a remote-controlled lamp the radio equipment is the handset and the receiver, not the luminaire.
Two kinds of obligation
Equipment that intentionally radiates is authorised as a radio device, which for a handset means an equipment authorisation with an identifier that can be looked up. Equipment that can incidentally radiate, such as a lamp with a switching driver, is generally subject to a supplier's declaration of conformity rather than to an identifier.

Why buyers ask for the wrong document
A request for the lamp's FCC certificate arrives because a marketplace or a buyer's form asks a broad question. The correct response is to supply the grant for the radio module, with its identifier, and to explain in one line why the luminaire itself is covered by a declaration.
Mixing brands breaks the filing
If the handset is authorised and the receiver is a different module from a different supplier, the combination may need its own filing. This is why the radio pairing should be fixed at the design stage and not swapped at the last moment to save cost.
What to keep in the compliance folder
The grant, the identifier, the tested model numbers, the antenna description, and a statement of which lamp models the receiver is fitted to. That set answers almost every enquiry a retailer or a marketplace will make.
Labeling the handset
The identifier has to appear on the device in the form the rules require. Buyers who see the label on the handset stop asking about the lamp, which is worth more than the label itself costs.
Requirements differ for intentional and incidental radiators. Confirm with the testing laboratory for each configuration.
